The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is the spine of most cross-borough trips and it is also the least predictable road involved. It is old, frequently under work, and has no convenient alternative when something happens on it. Local streets through brownstone neighbourhoods are narrow and heavily parked, which affects where a vehicle can practically stop.
None of that is a reason not to drive here. It is a reason to know the borough before you plan the trip, which is most of what we bring to it.

Downtown Brooklyn
Courts, offices and hotels around Borough Hall. The most straightforward part of the borough to reach and to leave.
Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO
Waterfront streets, cobbles in places, and drop-off points worth agreeing before the day.
Williamsburg and Greenpoint
Northern Brooklyn, closest to Queens and furthest from the Verrazzano. Routing here differs from the rest of the borough.
Park Slope and Prospect Heights
Residential brownstone blocks off the park, reached from the Prospect Expressway or local avenues.
Bay Ridge
The first neighbourhood past the Verrazzano and the quickest part of Brooklyn to reach from New Jersey.
Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant
Central and eastern Brooklyn, reached by the BQE or the surface avenues depending on conditions.
Red Hook
The cruise terminal and the surrounding waterfront. Limited road access makes timing here worth planning.
Sunset Park and Gowanus
Close to the expressway corridor, and among the easier Brooklyn addresses for a larger vehicle.
Crossings Into and Out of Brooklyn
How you reach Brooklyn depends entirely on where you are coming from, and the options are genuinely different in character rather than just in distance.
From Manhattan.
The Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges serve the north and the Downtown Brooklyn area. The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel runs from Lower Manhattan to Red Hook and the Gowanus. Which is faster changes by the hour and by the destination, and the bridges are free while the tunnel is tolled.
From New Jersey.
Most trips cross Staten Island on the Goethals and then enter Brooklyn over the Verrazzano at Bay Ridge, which avoids Manhattan entirely and holds up well during weekday peaks. Northern Brooklyn is occasionally quicker through the city outside rush hour.
From Queens and the airports.
The BQE connects the two boroughs directly, and JFK is closer to much of Brooklyn than Manhattan is. Trips from LaGuardia usually run down the BQE as well.

Narrow Streets and Where a Vehicle Can Stop
Much of Brooklyn is brownstone blocks with parking on both sides and one lane of moving traffic between them. A sedan manages that comfortably. A Sprinter van frequently does not.
When you book from a residential Brooklyn address, tell us the street rather than just the neighbourhood. We will either confirm it works or agree a nearby pickup point that does — which is a two-minute conversation when you book and a genuine problem when it happens on the day.
Choosing a Vehicle

A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter carries 14 passengers and 10 bags, and is the right call for groups and for the cruise terminal — though on some Brooklyn blocks it cannot practically stop, which is why we ask for the street address.

It depends heavily on where in Brooklyn you are starting and which crossing suits your destination. Downtown Brooklyn to Lower Manhattan is short. Williamsburg to the Upper East Side is not. We quote against the actual addresses rather than the boroughs.
Can you take me from Brooklyn to JFK or LaGuardia?
Yes. JFK is closer to much of Brooklyn than Manhattan is, and both airport runs generally use the BQE.

Yes, at Red Hook. Cruise luggage fills a vehicle faster than people expect, so tell us the bag count when you book — a family sailing for a week is usually an SUV or a Sprinter rather than a sedan.
Which is faster from New Jersey, through Manhattan or over the Verrazzano?
Usually the Verrazzano, crossing Staten Island and avoiding Manhattan entirely. Northern Brooklyn is sometimes quicker through the city outside peak hours. Your chauffeur decides on the day.
Can a Sprinter van reach my street?
Sometimes not. Parts of Brooklyn have street widths and parking density that make a Sprinter impractical. Give us the address when you book and we will confirm or suggest a workable alternative nearby.
