Getting From Hoboken Into Manhattan
Hoboken is barely a mile of water from Midtown, which makes the drive time look absurd on paper. The reason it is not twelve minutes is that the slowest part of the trip is usually the first half-mile — getting out of Hoboken itself.
The street grid is tight, largely one-way, and heavily parked. Washington Street moves slowly at almost any hour. The approaches to the Lincoln Tunnel helix carry traffic from well beyond Hoboken, so a queue that has nothing to do with your trip can absorb fifteen minutes before you have properly left.
Allow for that rather than the map distance, and the trip is straightforward. We work across the whole of Hoboken, from the waterfront and the PATH station up to the uptown residential blocks.
The First Half-Mile Is the Problem
What catches people out about Hoboken is that the variability sits at the start, not the crossing. Once you are into the tunnel the trip is predictable. Getting to the tunnel on a weekday morning is not.
For that reason we ask for a specific street address rather than "Hoboken" when you book. A pickup on Sinatra Drive and a pickup on Willow Avenue are different trips in practice even though they are a few blocks apart.
Evening pickups are considerably easier than morning ones, which is part of why the return leg from Manhattan into Hoboken is one of the more reliable trips we run.
Which crossing, and what it costs
Hoboken trips almost always use the Lincoln Tunnel, which emerges in the high 30s on the West Side and serves Midtown, Hudson Yards, Penn Station and the Javits Center. The Holland Tunnel is sometimes better for downtown destinations. Hudson crossings are tolled eastbound only, at $16.79 with E-ZPass at peak and $14.79 off peak, where peak means weekdays six to ten in the morning and four to eight in the evening, and weekends eleven to nine. Should You Take the Train Instead?
PATH from Hoboken into Midtown or the World Trade Center is quick, and for a solo trip at rush hour to somewhere near a station it will usually beat a car. We would rather tell you that than claim otherwise.
A car makes sense when you are carrying luggage, travelling as a group, heading somewhere not near a PATH station — which includes most of the East Side and everything above Midtown — coming home late, or travelling in weather. It is also the right call when you would rather not walk from a station at the far end.

Reached after the tunnel; crosstown travel adds time that the river crossing does not.

Usually better through the Holland Tunnel than across Manhattan from the Lincoln.

Choosing a Vehicle
An executive sedan suits most Hoboken trips and handles the narrow streets best. Families and anyone with checked luggage should book a full-size SUV. Groups of seven or more need a Sprinter van, though on some Hoboken blocks a Sprinter cannot practically stop — tell us the street when you book and we will agree a pickup point that works.

Getting into Manhattan is rarely the problem. Getting out at eleven at night, in weather, when everyone else is trying to do the same thing, is where evenings go wrong. Book both legs together and it is already handled.
The rate is fixed when you book.
You approve a flat rate in advance. It does not move because traffic was heavy or because you booked on a busy night. Tolls and parking are added at cost, itemised rather than buried.

Your vehicle exists before you need it. It does not depend on how many drivers happen to be nearby, and it does not reprice itself at the moment you are standing outside.

How long does it take from Hoboken to Manhattan?
Typically 20 to 40 minutes. The variability is mostly in getting out of Hoboken and onto the tunnel approach rather than in the crossing itself. Evening trips are more predictable than weekday mornings.
Is PATH faster?
For a solo rush-hour trip to somewhere near a station, usually yes. A car is better with luggage, with a group, for destinations away from a station, for late returns, and in bad weather.
Why do you need my exact street address?
Because in Hoboken it genuinely changes the trip. A few blocks affects which approach your chauffeur uses and how long the first stretch takes.
Can a Sprinter van pick up on my street?
Sometimes not — parts of Hoboken have street widths and parking density that make a Sprinter impractical. Tell us the address when you book and we will either confirm it or agree a nearby point that works.
