Getting From Short Hills Into Manhattan
Short Hills sits about twenty miles from Midtown, closer than most of central New Jersey, and the drive is typically thirty-five minutes to an hour. The constraint is I-78 and the approach to the Turnpike, which carries heavy commuter volume in both directions and has no convenient alternative when something goes wrong on it.
This is a corporate corridor, and it shows in the work. A significant share of our Short Hills bookings are executives heading into Midtown or the Financial District, clients being collected from home, and airport connections timed around meetings rather than around convenience.

A Corporate Corridor With an Excellent Train
Short Hills has one of the better commuter rail connections in New Jersey. The Midtown Direct service runs into New York Penn Station without a change, and for a straightforward weekday trip into Midtown it is genuinely hard to beat.
What brings people to us instead is everything around that. Early flights where the train has not started running. Evening events with an uncertain finish. Clients being collected and driven rather than told to find their own way. Groups. Anything with luggage.
The Mall at Short Hills also generates a particular kind of booking — visitors staying locally who want a car for a day in the city rather than a single ride.
Which crossing, and what it costs
Short Hills trips generally run via Route 24 and I-78 to the Turnpike, then the Lincoln Tunnel for Midtown. The George Washington Bridge is occasionally better for Upper Manhattan. Hudson crossings are tolled eastbound only, at $16.79 with E-ZPass at peak and $14.79 off peak — peak being weekdays six to ten in the morning and four to eight in the evening, and weekends eleven to nine. Should You Take the Train Instead?
Midtown Direct into New York Penn Station is a strong service, and for a solo weekday trip into Midtown it will usually be faster and cheaper than driving. If that is your trip, take the train.
Book a car when you are travelling before the service starts or after it thins out, when you have luggage, when you are travelling as a group, when your destination is away from Penn Station, when you are collecting a client, or when the arrival itself is part of the occasion.

For a solo weekday trip into Midtown, usually yes, and we will tell you so. A car is the better choice for early mornings, late returns, luggage, groups, and destinations away from Penn Station.

Yes. Short Hills and Millburn are treated as one service area.
Can you collect a client from home and take them into the city?
Yes, and it is a common booking here. Tell us the address and the meeting time and we will work backwards to a pickup.
Can you do an hourly day rather than a one-way trip?
Yes. Hourly bookings have a three-hour minimum for a sedan or SUV and five for a Sprinter, and for a day with several stops in the city they are usually both simpler and cheaper than separate trips.
